To Wellington Road and a hidden art café with a tranquil outdoor terrace

Sometimes you just need a minute to yourself.
There are few things more relaxing than grabbing a quiet cuppa whilst reading a book, paired with a spell of people-watching or daydreaming.
But Leesiders’ love of lattes and double espressos means that cafés around Cork are usually fairly bustling so there are not many spots that could be described as ‘quiet’, even after the lunchtime rush.
That’s why The Hideout Café and Art Gallery on Wellington Road is the perfect spot to enjoy some well-deserved caffeine-fuelled downtime.
Owned and run by Ballymaloe-trained chef Agnes Stawosz, this calm retreat offers views of the city, great cake, and a lovely terrace-which, in the run-up to summer, will be our go-to lunch spot on a sunny day.

The café also hosts regular art exhibitions by established and budding artists.
Next up on the walls of The Hideout will be the work of sculptor and illustrator Niamh Leonard, who produces colourful, nature-inspired pieces that are sure to illuminate the space, just in time for Easter.

All we need now is for the sun to make an appearance again and we’ll be making regular visits.
