It’s wine o’clock somewhere, amiriiiite?
And if you’re about to shop for a pressie for the wine lover in your life, a brand new Cork pop-up is overflowing with fun ideas for oenophiles.
Irish family-run business The Wine Opener just opened its first-ever Leeside pop-up in Mahon Point Shopping Centre, giving customers the chance to meet the team behind the brand, tangibly sample the products, and even get engravings from an expert calligrapher on certain dates.
Run by Carlow mum and daughter duo Sophie and Mary Leahy, The Wine Opener’s collection of clever wine accessories are designed to keep white wine cold. red wine fresh and Champagne and prosecco bubbly.
Their big seller is The Wine Opener (€50), an easy-to-use, sleek electronic wine opener available in chrome or gold. Designed to fit all traditional wine bottles, the user simply pops The Wine Opener on top of the bottle and presses the button to watch the cork rise out within seconds.
Despite dealing with arthritis, Mary continues to enjoy a glass of wine. However, the use of traditional corkscrews posed a significant challenge for her.
Recognising this issue, Sophie set out to discover an accessible alternative but was surprised to find nothing available on the market. Determined to address this gap, she took the initiative to create a solution, giving rise to ‘The Wine Opener.’
Other star buys include The Pop Stop (€20), designed to be popped back onto a bottle of prosecco, Champagne, cava or sparkling wine to keep bubbles bubbly for five days.
There’s also the ‘This Might Be Wine’ Quencher (€30), a 1.2l cup that keeps beverages warm, cold, or iced for up to 18 hours thanks to the double wall vacuum insulation. A must-have gift for those who love to stay hydrated and look fabulous doing it.
“The growth of the business over the past two years has been staggering,” Sophie told us.
“We are selling in the US, UK and of course our native Ireland. Since launching we have sold over 22,000 products, which is incredible for a start-up and something we are very proud of.
“We had the pleasure of launching new products this year and may also have one or two surprise festive items launching around the time our pop-ups go live, so we can’t wait to showcase everything we have been working on.”
You can visit The Wine Opener in Mahon Point until Christmas.
