Ever heard of a ‘Corkation’?
It’s something like a staycation except, instead of driving for hours across the country, stopping occasionally to shout abuse at the Google Maps voice, you just pack a single bag and take a 20-minute spin within the county bounds.
While Level 3 restrictions demand that pubs and restaurants close their indoor facilities for the next three weeks, hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs can remain open, but with services limited to residents.
With out-of-towners restricted to their own counties until October 27th at the earliest, Cork’s hotels have been pulling out all the stops to put together attractive deals designed to encourage locals to stay over.
Sure why would you want to leave Cork anyway?
Here are five deals to book for a special occasion:
1. THE ‘CORKATION’ AT THE MONTENOTTE HOTEL
Ready to kick back with a bottle of wine and enjoy a dinner that you didn’t have to cook yourself? A Corkation at The Montenotte hotel includes a three-course meal in the Panorama Bistro, followed by a cocktail or hot chocolate on the Panorama Terrace and free access to the pool. After breakfast, you can explore the Victorian Gardens.
Book in: From €179.50 here.
2. ‘BED, BRUNCH AND BUBBLES’ AT THE METROPOLE
Celebrating something special? Book in for the ‘Bed. Brunch and Bubbles’ package at The Metropole on Mac Curtain Street and you’ll enjoy bottomless boozy brunch, a one-night stay and free parking – available on Saturdays and Sundays.

3. THE ‘REBEL RECHARGER’ AT THE ROCHESTOWN PARK
The Rochestown Park has launched a ‘Rebel Recharger’ offer including B&B, a two-course evening meal, a bottle of house wine with your dinner and a free upgrade to a Deluxe room. They’ll even throw in a late check out at 1pm.
Book in: €149 per couple here.
4. THE ‘CORKONLYAN’ AT THE HAYFIELD MANOR
Okay so we’re pushing it with the Cork-centric names here but the Hayfield Manor’s ‘Corkonlyan’ offer is an excellent excuse for natives to sleep over in the city’s only five-star hotel. €323 gets you a four-course evening meal, a glass of prosecco, beer or stout, overnight accommodation with a complimentary upgrade, access to the pool and a full Irish brekkie the next morning.
Book in: €323 per night here.
5. THE ‘NO PLACE LIKE CORK, LIKE’ AT THE TRIDENT
Nip down to Kinsale to avail of the Trident’s ‘No Place Like Cork, Like’ offer for two, which includes overnight accommodation, a signature cocktail each, a three-course dinner in the cosy Wharf Tavern (or al fresco on the heated terrace) and breakfast cooked to order. They’ll even leave KoKo Kinsale handcrafted chocolates in your room.
Book in: From €197 here.
Remember; the Government’s Stay and Spend scheme allows hotel guests and diners to claim up to €125 back in tax credits if you’re spending money on accommodation or food between now and April 30th, 2021. You can claim a 20% refund on any hospitality spend over €25.
