There’s a new GIN afternoon tea in Cork (and it’s our ideal day out)

Looking for an excuse to treat yo’ self?
There’s nothing like a long and leisurely afternoon tea to make you feel like you’ve been spoilt rotten – especially when it’s snowing in March.
Add a gin and a dash of fancy tonic into the mix and you’ve got yourself a dream day out.
Electric, the riverside eatery smack bang in the middle of the city, has just the thing. Their new Afternoon Tea by the Lee is about to become the hottest ticket in town among folks who like the finer things in life.
The best bit? This one is a bargain too; at €30 per person you not only enjoy a feast of treats hand-picked by Electric’s chefs, but you can also choose a glass of bubbles, a house cocktail or your favourite G&T.

Served in a cosy corner of the Art Deco bar, overlooking the water, the menu is a celebration of local ingredients from the English Market.
Everything arrives artfully arranged on three mesmerising tiers; we’re talkin’ spiced beef sliders with mustard mayo and cress; crispy black pudding crostini with burnt apple pureé and West Cork potted crab with tangy lemon mayo, to start.
Fresh scones with fruit jam and whipped cream are up next, moving on to hand-rolled Rebel Chilli chocolate truffles (*drool*) and mini Murphy’s and chocolate cupcakes.
And it doesn’t end there.
The final tier is where you’ll find the ultimate Cork dessert; Tanora trifle, three luscious layers of custard, cream and sponge jelly made with the official fizzy drink of the Rebel County.
Take your time with it though, you’ll need to leave room for West Cork strawberries, elderflower cream and crushed meringue.
If you really want to keep it truly local, try the Kinsale Gin, a crisp, clean pick made with botanicals grown or foraged in West Cork.
Need we say more? It’s been a long winter and with spring delayed by a further few weeks, we can’t think of anything cosier than settling into Electric for an afternoon of absolute luxury.
Go on, book yourself in; you deserve it.
