There’s a new beach sauna firing up just in time for St Patrick’s weekend

We’ll be needing plenty of detoxing.
And with Paddy’s Weekend looming and a hectic few days of wild celebrations ahead of us, we’ll be fencing off a couple of hours to check out Cork’s newest beach sauna in between nights out.
Sauna Republic is a new wood-fired barrel sauna located at Coolmain Beach in Kilbrittain, overlooking the bay to Courtmacsherry and Timoleague.
It’s the ideal wholesome excursion to rid you of The Fear if you’ve been on the lash (a plunge into the freezing sea afterwards is a failsafe hangover cure) or the perfect way to spend a booze-free morning over the bank holiday weekend.

The sauna is owned by Vinicius ‘Vini’ Santini who hails from Rio in Brazil.
Having been introduced to Irish sea swimming by his girlfriend, who is Irish, Vini was hooked:
“It was freezing but exhilarating and only made possible by the amazing hot sauna parked up beside the beach. I liked it so much that I had the idea of one day starting my own sauna,” he told Yay Cork.
“After several months of thinking about it, I decided to go for it and Sauna Republic was born. I think it’s a great activity in Ireland because you can enjoy it even when the weather is bad. On a wet cold day, a sauna is a perfect way to connect with the outdoors.
“Coolmain is a lovely quiet beach just 20 minutes from either Bandon or Kinsale which are both ideal for a pre or post-sauna pit-stop,” he added.
“We are firing up the sauna for St. Patrick’s weekend and have early bird tickets until March 15th.”
