There’s a freezing night in store (but forecasters say it will be ‘much milder’ by the weekend)

We’re cranking up the heating for tonight.
But although Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory ahead of freezing temperatures in the coming 24 hours, they’ve also noted that it won’t last; milder conditions are expected in Cork by the the time the weekend rolls around.
In the meantime, a Status Yellow – Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland is in place, kicking in at 8pm tonight, Tuesday, and remaining in place until 10am on Wednesday morning.
Forecasters warn it will be “very cold with widespread frost and icy stretches’. Possible impacts include hazardous conditions on roads and paths and some travel disruption.

Wednesday night will be dry and clear in many parts with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees with frost and icy patches. On Thursday, many areas will be dry and cold with spells of sunshine and highs of 3 to 5 degrees.
By the weekend we may be able to turn the heat down by a few degrees: “Current indications are for a very unsettled day with rain, possibly heavy at times with strong winds too. Becoming much milder though with temperatures heading back into the double figures.” said a forecaster.
