There’s a free family-friendly birthday bash happening at Beaumont Quarry

Always saying you should get involved in a local group?
This Saturday, August 16th, there’s the perfect opportunity to pay it forward in the great outdoors.
From 11 am to 3 pm, Beaumont Quarry will be buzzing (literally!) as Nature Network Ireland celebrates its 10th anniversary with a free, family-friendly festival of nature, music, and community spirit.
It’s been a big decade for the group — formerly known as Cork Nature Network — which started out with grassroots projects right here in Cork and has now grown into a national organisation protecting wildlife across Ireland. And to mark the occasion, they’ve got another reason to cheer: Beaumont Quarry has just been officially recognised as a designated Wildlife Area, a huge win for local conservation.

Expect a day packed with activities for all ages. There’ll be live music from folk favourites The Lost Gecko, bug hunts for the mini explorers, a moth trap release with ecologists, and expert-led nature walks and birdwatching sessions (don’t forget your binoculars!).
Wildlife photographer Conor Rowlands will be on hand to share the stories behind his stunning nature shots, and the BirdWatch Ireland South Cork team will guide visitors through the quarry’s hidden habitats.
For families, there’ll be plenty of hands-on, nature-themed fun, and for anyone curious about conservation, there’ll be expert talks and stands where you can learn how to get involved in protecting Cork’s wild spaces.
