The Oval is turning 100 – so they’re serving pints at 1918 prices

It’s quite the milestone.
One of Cork’s most iconic pubs is celebrating 100 years in business this month… and they’ve come up with a novel way to celebrate.
From 7.18pm until 11.30pm on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, you can pop into The Oval and enjoy a perfectly poured pint of Beamish for the same price as you would have paid for it in 1918.
The bar, on the corner of South Main Street and Tuckey Street, is named after its unusual interior ceiling.
In fact, the venue was custom designed by an Edinburgh-based firm of architects on behalf of the Beamish and Crawford brewery, which previously operated across the street.
Incredibly, The Oval is still in its original condition and it’s the only pub in Cork to be included on a list of important 20th Century buildings within the city limits.
Announcing the birthday celebrations on Facebook, the management said:
“To all of our loyal patrons and curious tourists, we here in the Oval are delighted to invite you to a day of celebrations. We have finally turned 100 years old and would like all of ye to join us for a few pints of Beamish and some local brews from just over the road.”
