The minute the lockdown ends we’re heading to Kanturk for an ice cream chimney

You may have tried them in Budapest.
But now you can get your hands on one of Hungary’s most popular street snacks in North Cork and we’re counting down the days until the travel ban is lifted.
Petra Kriva, the owner and head chef at Yumm Café in Kanturk, has come up with a special treat for customers who live within 5km of her café.
Lucky locals can swing by Percival Street for a Chimney Cake; a baked dough ‘chimney’ coated in cinnamon sugar, roasted nuts or sugar, filled with ice cream and topped with a dollop of fresh cream and a selection of delicious sauces and sweets.

The traditional cake, which dates back to the 1700s, is sold at ‘kürtőskalács’ stands throughout Budapest and often cooked alfresco over hot coals before the ice cream and toppings are added.
At Yumm Café you can order yours piled high with Biscoff, banoffee, Milky Bar and Oreo or Nutella.
You can also pick up Petra’s famous scones (white chocolate and raspberry or mint, lemon and blackberry) and Yumm Café’s luscious Twirl, Kinder Hippo or Mint Aero brownies or (OMG) Terry’s Chocolate Orange cookies to enjoy with your takeaway coffee.
