The Glucksman is hosting three in-conversation lunchtime talks with artists this month

They’re all free to attend.
This October, The Glucksman will present three in-conversation lunchtime talks with artists featured in their current exhibition Groundwork: Climate Awareness in the UCC Art Collection.
Each artist will explore their practice with an expert from University College Cork across themes of biodiversity, extraction and economics.
- Friday, October 11th – Miriam O’Connor with Dr Declan Jordan
- Saturday, October 19th – Caitríona Leahy with Dr Ben Gearey
- Saturday, October 26th – Garrett Phelan with Prof. John Quinn
“Expanding climate awareness through visual art encourages a greater account for the stewardship of our damaged planet.” said a spokesperson for the gallery.
“Creative practice can be a location and moment of connection that transcends the everyday, offering the opportunity to think differently. Visual art, in this sense, allows us to consider the intricate relationships which impact the natural world and where and how we can situate ourselves in it.”

At these in-conversation events, audiences are invited to learn more about the work of these artists and the wider research which has influenced their practice.
Miriam O’Connor will dive deeper into her artwork with Dr. Declan Jordan (Cork University Business School) considering climate awareness in relation to economics and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Artist Caitríona Leahy and Dr Ben Gearey (Dept of Archaeology, UCC) will discuss peatland environments and the impact of human interventions. Garrett Phelan will expand upon his artwork The Hide Suite (2016) with Professor John Quinn (Zoology, UCC) exploring art, ornithology and the environment.
Each talk will be from 1pm-2pm and will allow time for questions and audience response, all are free to attend and can be booked over here.
