Taste six white wines and six paired plates at this delicious little city supper

Here’s one to get in the ‘Wine not?’ WhatsApp.
The Merchant on South Mall is hosting its first-ever Wine & Food Pairing Experience on Thursday, August 6th, promising an intimate evening of exceptional wines, seasonal small plates and the stories behind every pour.
Guests will work their way through six carefully selected white wines, each matched with a tasting plate designed to complement the flavours in the glass. Expect everything from crisp Spanish Verdejo and coastal Picpoul de Pinet to Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

The highlight of the evening is set to be a special pour from Roisin Curley, the acclaimed Irish winemaker producing award-winning wines in Burgundy. It’s a rare chance to sample one of Ireland’s most respected names in wine without leaving Cork.

On the food side, the menu includes everything from smoked salmon on brown bread and chilli garlic tiger prawn skewers to crispy fish cake bites, prawn cocktail tartlets and a sweet-and-savoury combination of poached pear, Cashel Blue and aged prosciutto.
Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast, just starting to explore different grape varieties or simply looking for a different kind of night out in the city, the tasting promises a relaxed introduction to the art of pairing food and wine.
With a limited number of seats available in The Merchant’s new South Mall home, you can nab a ticket (€38.52) here.
