Taoiseach to reopen runway at Cork Airport this weekend

Micheál’s coming home.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin will be in town this weekend to raise the curtain on a new era for Cork Airport. As its €40 million runway renovation nears completion, the airport will reopen to customers on November 22nd, with a flight to London Heathrow.
A small ceremony will be held tomorrow (Saturday 20th) to celebrate the reopening. The invite-only event will also see the Barrack Street Brass & Reed Band providing entertainment, as well as food for guests.
The runway project has gone smoothly, coming in both on budget and on time. Yesterday, the airport tweeted: “Prior to the reopening of runway 16/34 at Cork Airport next Monday Nov 22, flight calibration tests were conducted this week to ensure the instrumentation landing system & the airfield lighting is working perfectly. We passed all tests with flying colours.”
After reopening, Cork Airport will provide flights to several destinations in the UK, as well as Paris, Amsterdam, Lapland, Salzburg, Munich, Geneva and more.
