Sneak Peek: Inside Cork’s newest rooftop bar Queen of Rebels

By Yay Cork July 17, 2020July 17, 2020

Brought to you by Queen of Rebels.

Planning your return to the social scene?

Now there’s a brand new rooftop bar to check out in the city: Queen of Rebels is now open on South Main Street.

The venue, in the space upstairs from Captain America’s on South Main Street formerly occupied by SUAS, has been closed since March, but in recent weeks the interiors have been given a makeover, complete with an immersive mural by Irish visual artist James Kirwan.

“I started with the wall that includes a Queen of Hearts and raised fist, it has a theme of rebellion, a lot of reds!” James told Yay Cork.

“I then continued around the room with pure abstractions of colour and forms, which leads you outside to the smoking area where the colours naturally transition through into the greener side of the spectrum. I lastly finished up by painting the wall as you enter the space, which acts as a guide of what to expect.”

So what’s on the Queen of Rebels menu? A combination of sweet beats, rooftop views, craft beer, and fun and quirky cocktails – it’s the perfect spot to let the day slip away beyond the city skyline.

The outdoor terrace, which boasts stunning views of the copper domes of St Francis Church on Liberty Street, is freshly redecorated too – just in time for outdoor pints in the summer sunshine, provided the weather plays along.

Hungry? You’re in the right place.

WOWBURGER will be serving up its famous double patty burgers, crispy hand-cut fries and creamy shakes and sundaes, available exclusively at the Queen of Rebels for dining in.

Simply order from one of the team and they’ll deliver to your seat. Yum.

How do I book?

The doors open at 12pm – just in time for an alfresco lunch on the terrace.

“As part of our Covid-19 safety measures, the Queen of Rebels will operate table service only to minimise customer contact,” they told us.

“We recommend booking a table through our website queenofrebels.ie or on (021) 427 8972, walk-ins always welcome too.”

And in other news, just downstairs in Captain Americas, you can now dine in and enjoy all your favourite dishes from the Elephant & Castle, Wowburger and Dollard Pizza delivery service. Guests can take a seat in the restaurant and order from an extensive menu that includes all the best from the four brands.
