Settle in for the History of Witchcraft and Feminism at this fascinating Cork talk

By Yay Cork January 22, 2025January 22, 2025

Summon the coven.

Fans of all things feminist and witchy will be gathering in Cork City at the end of February for a fascinating evening exploring The History of Witchcraft and Feminism at Cyprus Avenue.

The Seed Talks event will be hosted on Tuesday, February 25th by Lora O’Brien, a modern Draoí (practitioner of Irish magic) and a dedicated priest of the Irish Goddess Mórrígan since 2004.

With over 30 years of experience exploring and teaching Irish spirituality, mythology, and witchcraft, Lora has authored seven books, including works on Irish history, folklore, and Pagan practice. Their eighth book, The Mórrígan: Ireland’s Goddess, will be published by Llewellyn in 2025.

‘A call to reclaim power through witchcraft’

“Witchcraft and feminism have long empowered women and marginalised communities to challenge oppression and reclaim their power.” say the organisers.

“In this talk, Lora O’Brien explores their significance in modern Irish society. Drawing on ancient Irish traditions, she highlights how witchcraft has historically helped women push against social norms, offering a path to empowerment and self-expression.

“This talk is a call to reclaim personal and collective power through witchcraft, linking feminist values to Irish culture.”

Lora will share stories from Irish mythology and practical insights into modern witchcraft to demonstrate how these ancient practices can help tackle injustice and build resilience. She will also offers a fresh perspective on how the magic of the past can inspire activism today.

Doors open at 7pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm – get there early to grab a good seat. Tickets are €15.64 here.
