Sad news as IndieCork announces this year’s film festival will be its last

The curtain is about to fall on IndieCork.
After years of celebrating independent film and music, the festival has announced that this year’s edition will be its last.
The committee says the decision has been in the making for the past year, the most prominent factor being the loss, on October 12th 2024, of its founding member, Tony Langlois, in tragic circumstances.
“Tony was the spirit of IndieCork. He founded the festival and was its heart and soul.” the committee said in a statement this morning.

“He steered the ship and kept us focused on the good we could do as a collective, always with the aim of shining a light on Cork talent. We have missed him enormously, and we dedicate our final 13th edition to his memory, October 5th to 12th at the Arc Cinema.”
The committee revealed that, despite the invaluable support received over the years, they had not succeeded in securing the level of annual funding that would allow the team to develop, to create jobs, and to plan future festivals.
“In 2013, we formed as a co-operative, inspired by Cork City Football Club, with Tony spearheading the formation of the organisation. IndieCork is entirely a voluntary organisation, with our directors, committee members and team members contributing their time and skills for free. We cannot continue to rely on this model into the future.” they added.
13 years of magic
“As a collective we have long been a motley crew, welcoming divergent personalities and perspectives, always with an open door. However, we held a common vision to create a vibrant, community-focused festival, sharing ownership in a non-hierarchical structure.”
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved over the past 13 years, offering a platform to new voices from all backgrounds, but particularly to local Cork filmmakers and musicians. We’ve had the privilege of helping to elevate Cork talent on screen, and to see these filmmakers thrive year after year. In turn, the international vision for the festival has connected us to a global network of independent filmmakers, colleagues and film industry.”
