Starting to think that a tiny home could be your ticket out of the rent game?
As the American trend for scaled-back living continues to gather pace on these shores, more than 1,500 people turned up at an open day earlier this summer to find out whether the best things really do come in smaller packages.
If you didn’t get a chance to have a nose around the interior of a Big Man Tiny Home at the Old Head of Kinsale event, here’s what you missed.
Kinsale builder JP Simpson, who lives in a tiny home himself, opened up his stunning one-bedroom show house to prove to the Cork public that living in a smaller house needn’t be uncomfortable or cramped.
In fact, his gorgeous industrial designs would give a Manhattan apartment a run for its money.
The typical tiny house is roughly 480sq ft in size and costs between €45,000 and €80,000. Each one comes complete with a fitted bathroom and kitchen, open plan living room and one or two bedrooms… and business is booming.
“The opening went amazingly well.” JP told Yay Cork.
“We have got a few orders in already and are going through the planning process so we can start construction. Most people who are coming to us either already have a site or are building at the back of family home.”
“We’re busy getting the new warehouse and factory into shape to start fabrication in 2020.”
These mini houses available to purchase in turn-key condition and they’re quick to build too, taking between six and eight weeks to complete before they are delivered by crane onto your site.
If you have some room to play with outdoors, you can add a terrace or a wraparound porch for extra space.
