Parliament Bridge will be repaired by October, using stone retrieved from the river

It’s slow and tricky work.
But Cork City Council has confirmed that Parliament Bridge will be fully repaired by autumn, after a part of the structure ended up in the water below following a road accident.
Reinstatement works to the southwestern section of the Parliament Bridge parapet, using elements of the original parapet, which had to be carefully retrieved from the riverbed after a traffic collision, are being undertaken by Gebel and Helling Conservation Ltd., who undertook similar repairs to St. Patrick’s Bridge in 2018.

“Missing or substantially damaged elements of the parapet have been carefully repaired or restored in accordance with established conservation best practice methods under the supervision of a Conservation Architect.” said a city council spokesperson.
“The four lighting columns are in the process of being re-cast using original moulds by the original manufacturer, Sugg & Co. Ltd., based in the UK. Works to the eastern footpath and parapet are now substantially complete.”
It is anticipated that overall works will be completed by early October 2025.
