We know; you’ve been waiting ages.
Easter falls a little later this year, meaning pancake fans have been left counting down the days until Shrove Tuesday, March 5th.
Happily, there are more than enough pancake-related events happening to make up for the delay.
In case you’ve forgotten why we eat our body weight in eggs, flour and sugar on this day every year, Shrove Tuesday is the day before the first day of Lent. That means if you’re giving up sugar for the coming 40 days, this is your last chance for a blow out.
If Lent isn’t your thing, there’s another way to restore your good karma; some establishments have decided to use gluttony for good by donating the proceeds from their pancakes to charity.
Here are three spots to hit on March 5th, 2019:
1. Mystery Pancake Tuesdays at Lab 82
This Lower Glanmire Road eatery has a reputation for wild and wonderful brunch creations. As well as their American Style Pancakes (served with bacon and maple syrup) and their Classic Pancakes (served with fresh lemon and sugar -) you can sink your teeth into the Oreo Pancakes (smothered in cookies, chocolate sauce, raspberry coulis and cream) or take a chance on The Mystery Machine – a brand new pancake flavour every Tuesday. All flavours are €8.90.
2. A Charity Pancake Sale at The Metropole
Need an excuse to fill your face with delicious pancakes? Get yourself over to MacCurtain Street where The Metropole Hotel is holding a Charity Pancake Sale in aid of Enable Ireland on Tuesday, March 5th, 2019. All pancakes with toppings are €2 each between 12pm and 2pm.
3. Outrageous savoury toppings at Joes & Bros
This Gillabbey Street brunch favourite has two triple-stack pancake options on the everyday menu, but drop by on Pancake Day and you can get your gob around this Shrove Tuesday special: Chicken goujons, smoked streaky bacon and a fried egg covered in maple syrup, all served on American style pancakes.
