Got a red-brick Georgian building?
A lot of us love old houses, those timeless treasures filled with a sturdy, quirky charm, and a delightful connection to the past.
But let’s face it, beneath those historic walls, there might be a few surprises waiting, especially for unsuspecting first-time homeowners.
Fear not, because the Cork City Council’s Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) grant scheme is lending a helping hand, with €120,000 available to fund works to repair important parts of some of our historic buildings.
If your dwelling is nestled in one of the 42 ACAs across Cork City, you could be eligible to receive a grant to carry out essential external works needed to secure the conservation of your historic gem.
That could be repairing windows, doors, roofs, chimneys, gutters, railings, or even spiffing up a charming shopfront. It’s all about embracing the quirks of yesteryear and ensuring that best conservation practices are followed when giving your beloved home a little TLC.
Grants available are up to €15,000 and typically cover up to 50% of the total project cost. Works need to be completed within 2024.
Apply for the Cork City Council’s ACA grant scheme here before the closing date on February 9th and get a little financial boost to keep those charming walls standing tall.
