Over 30,000 people vaccinated at walk-in clinics last weekend

Did you get a shot over the weekend?
The numbers are in and it appears that Ireland’s first go-around at walk-in vaccination clinics was a resounding success.
According to HSE CEO Paul Reid, over 30,000 people made use of the walk-in centres to receive their first jab.
On Twitter this morning, Reid wrote: “Over 30,000 people were administered a vaccination at our walk in centres the weekend. Outstripping our expectations by far. All age groups went through but this initiative makes us beyond proud of younger people. When needed, they once again showed up in numbers.”
The HSE’s vaccination co-ordination Damian McCallion told Newstalk Breakfast this morning that the success of the Bank Holiday’s scheme would be evaluated to see whether it could be repeated.
Cork saw massive numbers of people of all ages, though especially young people, turn up at walk-in centres across the county, including at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Over 600 people were vaccinated at the centre in City Hall on August 1st.
The next step of Ireland’s vaccination rollout is now to vaccinate those between the ages of 12 and 15, a move that is expected to come within the next two weeks.
As things stand, Ireland currently has 27 people in intensive care due to Covid, with 1,352 new cases of the virus confirmed yesterday.
