One of Cork’s cosiest pubs has announced it will now open at 9am most days

Time tends to fly inside The Mutton Lane.
But if you’re keen to get a clear run at the day (or you simply fancy a swift half or a warming hot toddy as you go about your business) the bar is now welcoming customers in the door even earlier.
The management at the iconic Cork venue, owned by local publican Benny McCabe, has announced that the alleyway watering hole (tucked away inside the St Patrick Street entrance to the English Market), will now begin serving at 9am for most of the week.
Take a seat at the bar for a tipple beneath the gaze of two famous Lord Mayors, JFK, Jackie and Johnny Cash or nab a candlelit table – you’ll find no TV here so it’s one of few spots on Leeside where conversation is still king.
“Mutton Lane will now open at 9am Monday to Saturday each week!” they announced on Facebook.

“Fantastic local beers on tap, hot whiskeys and ports, great tunes, and even better company at a fine fine hour!”
If you’re in the market for an even earlier pint, The Welcome Inn on Parnell Place is famous for opening at 7am.
While there was a time, back in the Seventies, when the city was home to more than 30 early morning pubs, Cork’s only other early house, Charlie’s on Union Quay, has given up the dawn start for now, opting to start the day at 2pm instead.
