Need some extra space? Now you can order an igloo dome for your own back yard

You’ve seen them on the boardwalk at Tequila Jacks.
Now you can order your very own igloo pod to create an extra covered seating area, outdoor room or home office on your deck or patio.
While restaurants and bars across Europe snapped them up to create dining pods for small groups during the pandemic, the crystal-clear, igloo-shaped shelters are also being used in private homes as work-from-home spaces, yoga studios or garden gyms.
At €3,535, the pods, made by Polish company HypeDome, are not cheap, but they come with a two-year warranty and an expected lifespan of up to 15 years.
Basically, if you look after it, your dome should be around for quite a while.
Parents have been using them as weather-proof playrooms for children (thanks to a clever design inspired by fish-scales, water flows down the surface of the HypeDome, keeping the interior completely dry) while others have been decorating their domes to be used as futuristic chill-out areas for dining and drinks.
The makers claim the structurally rigid geodesic dome design stands up to “even violent winds” too, which will come as a relief when Met Éireann issues its next Status Yellow alert.
Is it difficult to build?
“No, it’s actually quite easy!” says Hypedome.
“Assembly of the HypeDome requires two people and takes on average four hours to complete. All tools and manuals required for assembly are provided together with the kit. You will need a 3m tall ladder during the assembly and dismantle.”
Sounds straightforward enough.
