Mighty gusts and heavy rain as Storm Bert wreaks havoc on Cork roads

The advice is to stay put until after 10am.
Storm Bert continues to wreak havoc in parts of Cork this morning, after a long night of strong winds and heavy rain. While there’s a wet weekend in store, temperatures today will be considerably milder than of late, up to between 13 and 15 degrees.
There are reports of flooding in Little Island between the Circle K garage and the Euro Business Park. In West Cork, the Idle Bridge in Ballineen is impassable due to flooding.
A number of roads in the Mallow area have been closed due to flooding, including local roads off the N72 at Spa Glen, Ballylough Cross and Parkadallane, R620, Dromore at Clyda Bridge. Longfields Bridge and Killavullen Road have also been closed due to rising river levels.
Road R-621-0 near townlands including Kilvealaton West, Newberry, Gortnagross is impassable due to flooding.
The Cross River Ferry has also been suspended due to high winds and service will resume once it is safe to operate.

While Storm Bert has brought very wet and windy conditions, causing at least one flight to delay landing this morning, Cork Airport has issued a statement confirming that it is operating normally.
“As always, passengers due to travel this weekend should contact their airline directly for updates regarding specific flights and allow extra time for journeys in disruptive weather.” they said.
Met Éireann’s Red rain warning remains in place until 10am, with more showery rain and thunder likely later on today.
