Met Éireann is predicting a wet and windy Wednesday night in Cork with heavy rain

The dismal summer is going out with a bang.
Met Éireann is predicting a band of heavy rain and strong winds will move in over Cork later this evening, coinciding with very high tides, which may result in coastal flooding and wave overtopping.
“It’s going to be wet and windy for a time tonight as outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, spread from the west accompanied by strong and gusty southerly winds, with gales in western coastal parts.” said a forecaster.
Breezy & mostly cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of rain & drizzle, mainly across the northern half of the country. 🌧️
Becoming drier in most places later this afternoon, however, a band of heavier rain & strong to gale force winds will move in along the west coast later.🌬️ pic.twitter.com/vp3IclMHU3

The rain will clear overnight with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, although more stormy weather is expected on Thursday.
Tidal flood warning
Meanwhile, Cork City Council has advised that a period of naturally occurring very high astronomical spring tides will likely last until the weekend.
“Met Éireann have also advised Cork City Council due to a combination of forecasted strong winds and high waves associated with the storm front crossing the Atlantic at present, a significant storm surge may result in localised tidal flooding over the coming days.” said a spokesperson for the Council.
“The combination of both of these events may result in some localised tidal flooding along low-lying quays in the city.”
The advice is to avoid areas including Morrison’s Quay, Fr Matthew Quay, Trinity Bridge, Union Quay, Sharman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay, Frenche’s Quay, Proby’s Quay, Crosses Green, Lavitt’s Quay, Kyrl’s Quay and potentially reaching South Terrace, Rutland Street, Sawmill Street and South Mall, particularly during the high tides on this Wednesday, 7.45pm and Thursday evening, 8.27pm.
