Main Street Ballincollig is going traffic-free when Open Streets returns this month

By Yay Cork September 3, 2026September 3, 2026

If you love a good street festival and wholesome local vibes, get this on your radar.

Ballincollig Open Streets is back for its second year on Sunday, September 13th, 2026., and it’s shaping up to be a belter of a day.

Organised by the Ballincollig Business Association alongside Cork City Council and the Ballincollig Sustainable Transport Group, they are completely shutting down Main Street to cars from 1pm to 4pm, turning the town centre into a buzzing, pedestrianised playground.

Whether you’re bringing the kids, looking for live tunes, or curious about green living, there is a fun lineup planned.

Here’s what’s going down on the day:

Live Music: Performances from local legend Fiona Kennedy, the incredible White Horse Gospel Choir, plus classic trad sessions from Comhaltas.

Family Fun & Sports: Loads of dedicated children’s play activities, plus interactive sports demos from local GAA, Soccer, Basketball, and Rugby clubs.

Sustainable Transport Demos: Ever wanted to tour a Bus Éireann double-decker commuter bus? Now’s your chance. Plus, there will be full e-bike demos if you’re thinking of upgrading your commute.

Speaking on the event, Emer Cassidy, BBA Chairperson, highlighted the sheer amount of volunteer love going into the day, noting it’s all about creating “opportunities for people to connect, collaborate and celebrate everything that makes Ballincollig unique.”

There’s a new local podcast in the works too

September also marks the official launch of Up the Village: The Ballincollig Community Podcast.

Hosted by locals Killian and Chris O’Keeffe, this monthly show will be diving into the people, hidden stories, and local champions that make the area tick. You can already stream it over on Spotify, so make sure to give it a listen on your next walk.
