Love books? The Mystery Mingle is a fun library gathering with a twist

Attention, bookworms.
If your TBR pile needs a shake-up — or you just fancy a cosy Saturday with fellow book lovers — this could be your perfect afternoon plan.
The Mystery Mingle is landing at the Cork City Library on Grand Parade this February 28th for a relaxed, feel-good gathering with a twist. The idea is simple: every participant is handed a mystery wrapped book. No judging by the cover — because you can’t see it.
Once everyone’s settled in, the books are unwrapped together and you’ll read the first chapter on the spot. Then comes the fun part: you turn to the person beside you and give your honest verdict. Loved it? Didn’t grab you? Would you borrow it? It’s speed-dating for books — minus the awkwardness.
There’ll be tea, coffee and treats on hand, and the whole thing takes place in a cosy setting at The City Library, making it an ideal way to spend a winter afternoon.

It’s all part of ‘Ireland Reads’, a national campaign to get the whole country reading during February, culminating with ‘Ireland Reads Day’ on Saturday, February 28th.
Whether you’re looking to discover a new genre, meet other readers, or simply carve out an hour to switch off and read without distraction, The Mystery Mingle offers a low-pressure, welcoming space to do just that.
It’s happening on Saturday 28th February at 1.30pm and is open to adults.
