Learn how to make fire cider on Brigid’s Day at this affordable workshop

This’ll warm your cockles on a chilly day.
Marking the ancient festival of renewal and new beginnings, an affordable fire cider workshop invites curious Corkonians to learn how to make fire cider this St Brigid’s Day, February 1st.
Participants in the €15 class, led by food writer, historian and fermenter Julia Skinner, will learn how to make the fiery immune-boosting folk remedy that herbalists swear by from 2pm to 4pm at Rebel Reads in the Marina Commercial Park.
Fire cider, for the uninitiated, is a pungent, warming tonic made from apple cider vinegar infused with ingredients like horseradish, garlic, ginger, chilli and honey. Traditionally taken to support immunity and circulation, it has become a staple in many Irish kitchens, particularly during the tail end of winter when colds linger and energy levels dip.

Timed to coincide with Brigid’s Day — a moment steeped in symbolism around health, protection and the turning of the seasons — the hands-on workshop will guide participants through the process step by step. Better still, everyone goes home with their own batch to ferment and enjoy.
The atmosphere promises to be practical, welcoming and grounded, appealing to anyone interested in traditional remedies, seasonal living or simply trying something new.
