Yay Cork is proud to partner with Cork International Film Festival.
Pour the wine and pop the popcorn.
The Cork International Film Festival is bringing cinema home, offering movie lovers the chance to enjoy one of the best picks from the schedule from the comfort of their living rooms.
Limited tickets (€7.50) are available for tonight’s Irish Gala World Premiere of The Bright Side, a darkly funny feel-good story about a stand-up comedian and her battle with cancer, directed by Dublin-based Ruth Meehan.
Whether you’ve experienced cancer yourself or it’s touched your life in some way, this is a life-affirming film that’s guaranteed to brighten up a dark evening – especially if you get the gang together for a socially distanced simultaneous Monday watch party on WhatsApp.
A ‘Live from the Living Room – Girls Night In’ live chat event will kick off at 8pm on Monday. Whip up a Cameo Royale cocktail (The Montenotte Hotel has shared their recipe below) then join the cast for a Q&A to discuss the film.
Here’s how it works: After you purchase your ticket and the movie becomes available on November 9th, 2020 at 8:30pm, you’ll have six days and three hours to start watching. Once you begin the film, you’ll have 30 hours to finish it – that gives you plenty of time to catch up if you need to pause it at any stage (ideal for grabbing more popcorn or another cup of tea).
More about the movie…
Stand-up comedian Kate (Gemma-Leah Devereux) thinks her life has no meaning and is not worth continuing. When she’s diagnosed with breast cancer, even the universe seems to agree with her.
However, a close encounter with death – and four other women on the chemo ward – might just change her mind and even her life.
Ruth Meehan’s directorial debut offers black humour, cynicism and trust in the power of friendship and love in a perfect blend only found in Irish films.
How to make a Cameo Royale cocktail…
30ml of Vodka
20ml of Aperol
20ml of lemon juice
20ml of strawberry purée
Dash of grenadine
Method: Mix all the above ingredients together and top up with Champagne!
