Join a free night time picnic cycle (with a stop for bat watching as the sun sets)

There are some cool events planned this year.
Bike Week 2024 has begun in Cork, with 39 interesting public cycling events, including leisure cycles, come-and-try sessions, bike maintenance workshops, online workshops, challenges, competitions, and scenic cycles set to take place throughout Cork City.
In collaboration with Biodiversity Week, nature-loving cyclists can join a cycle to Ballincollig Regional Park along the river through the Mardyke and the Lee Fields on Wednesday, May 15th from 7pm to 10pm.
Designed to appeal to cycle commuters and residents in the central city area, there will be a break for a picnic before the journey back to the city, and as the sun sets there will be opportunities for bat-watching. Participants will even have an opportunity to use a bat detector.
The meeting point is at the Michael Collins bike statue outside the Library on Grand Parade at 7pm (register for free here) and the event will be suitable for anyone capable of competent road cycling including older children under supervision or on their parent’s bikes.
Pedal through the moonlight
Later in the week, you can join other nocturnal cyclists for a Bike Week Full Moon Cycle on Friday, May 17th.
Meeting at Blackrock Castle at 10pm, this exciting spin out around Mahon strand and back along the old railway line will be broken by unexpected sensory experiences, which may include music, poetry, performance, light and dark.
The cycle, which is particularly suited to less confident cyclists, will finish back in the city centre at 2am. You can register for free here.
