In East Cork, a glorious sunflower picking farm is now open to the public

This sounds like a bunch of fun.
A family run farm in Killeagh is opening up five acres of sunflower fields and walking trails to the public this summer… and it’s all for an excellent cause.
With over 100,000 sunflowers (ten varieties) to pluck from, Joe’s Farm Crisps are hosting sunflower picking days throughout July and August in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
The schedule is updated on social media on Mondays each week (the dates are subject to change due to the weather) and entrance costs €30 per car with half of this fee donated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, a tradition which the family have kept since starting the sunflower picking in 2021.
This weekend’s opening times are:
- Saturday 26th July: Open 10am-4pm
- Sunday 27th July: Open 10am-4pm
The fee includes one bunch of sunflowers and access to walking trails on the grounds, including loads of scenic photo opportunities for a few summery family photos.

There is no booking needed for the sunflower picking, but the farm, the café and farm shop are all cash only so don’t forget to swing by the ATM on the way.
The farm and sunflower picking are wheelchair and buggy accessible along grass and stone pathways but there are no dogs allowed on the farm.
“Since starting the sunflower picking in 2021 we have been able to raise money for a number of different charities every year.” said Joe Burns, owner of Joe’s Farm Crisps.
“The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland is a cause close to our hearts here on the farm so it is great to support them.”
