If Mondays must exist, this bubbly tasting is probably as enjoyable as they get

There’s something heroic about leaving the house on a Monday night in February.
The sofa is calling, the weather is sulking, and the week has barely begun.
However, on Monday, February 2nd, the Franciscan Well Brewery & Brewpub in Cork City will host Sparkling Battle: Champagne, Cava and Prosecco, a fizz-fuelled showdown led by Sergio Rubi that promises to turn the most neglected night of the week into something worth putting on proper shoes for.
From 6pm to 7.30pm, three sparkling heavyweights will be poured, compared, debated and ultimately judged by the only panel that really matters — the people holding the glasses.
This is not about snobbery or blind loyalty to Champagne. Nor is it about pretending Prosecco hasn’t carried half the country through the past decade. It’s about tasting, learning the differences, and then voting for your favourite. Democracy, but with bubbles.
There’s something reassuringly grown-up about an event like this. No DJ. No forced fun. Just good fizz, a knowledgeable host, and the low-stakes joy of discovering that the thing you like best is perfectly valid. In a pub. On a Monday. In February.
If Mondays must exist — and sadly they do — this is probably as enjoyable as they get. Tickets (€32.50) are available now here.
