Yay Cork is proud to partner with Cork International Film Festival.
Cork International Film Festival is bringing cinema home.
With cinemas closed in line with Level 5 restrictions, one of the world’s oldest film festivals has gone digital, offering movie lovers the chance to enjoy all the best picks from the schedule from the comfort of their living rooms.
Booking is open now and limited tickets (€7.50) are available for the Irish Gala World Premiere of The Bright Side, a darkly funny feel-good story about a suicidal stand-up comedian and her battle with cancer.
To make the event even more interactive, a ‘Live from the Livingroom – Girls Night In’ live chat event will kick off at 8pm on Monday. Whip up a Cameo Royale cocktail (The Montenotte Hotel has shared their recipe here) then join the cast for a Q&A to discuss the film.
A little about The Bright Side: Kate McLoughlin’s morbid prayers are answered in the form of a grim diagnosis. However, a last supper of dodgy shellfish and Champagne puts paid to her overdose attempt and to placate her family she begrudgingly agrees to undergo treatment.
Armed with staggering levels of cynicism and a plethora of blackly comic jokes, Kate gets off to a bad start with the four other women she encounters on the chemo ward, whose unsolicited friendships are destined to blow open her shut-down heart.
Whether you’ve experienced cancer yourself or it’s touched your life in some way, this is a life-affirming film that’s guaranteed to brighten up a dark evening – especially if you get the gang together for a socially distanced simultaneous watch party on WhatsApp.
Here’s how it works: After you purchase your ticket and the movie becomes available on November 9th, 2020 at 8:30pm, you’ll have six days and three hours to start watching. Once you begin the film, you’ll have 30 hours to finish it – that gives you plenty of time to catch up if you need to pause it at any stage (ideal for grabbing more popcorn or another cup of tea).
Ticket capacities are limited for all films so visit corkfilmfest.org to book your ticket now.
