Head to Fountainstown Beach for a free talk on Cork’s sharks and rockpools

Here’s one for the nature lovers.
If you’re interested in sea life, there’s a fascinating free event coming up on Saturday, May 24th that you won’t want to miss.
Head down to Fountainstown’s Blue Flag Beach on the day from 9.30am until 11.30am and get up close and personal with all the wonderful creatures that call our coastline home.
Some leading figures from Ireland’s top environmental groups will be there – Coastwatch, the Irish Wildlife Trust, and The Environmental Forum. They’ll be showing you the ropes and teaching you all about the amazing marine life you can find here.

You’ll get to learn about water testing and bioindicator monitoring with Karin Dubsky from Coastwatch, find out about the rays and sharks in our waters (!!!) with Grace Carr from the Irish Wildlife Trust, and explore how we can be responsible when enjoying the intertidal area and rockpools with Bernie Connolly from The Environmental Forum.
It’s all happening because of the EU Maritime Day Conference in Cork, the Cork Harbour Festival, and National Biodiversity Week, so there’s a good buzz about it.
Wear appropriate footwear – waterproof shoes, wellies or old runners – and bring a light rain jacket and layers, and swimwear if you’re feeling brave enough for a swim!
The group will meet at Fountainstown Beach beside Angela’s shop (P43 A529). Reserve a spot here.
Getting there: There’ll be a bus from Cork City, and they’ll be in touch to see if you want a spot. If you’re heading to the EU Maritime Day Conference, they might even drop you at the airport on the way back.
