Hair salons and barbers could now be set to reopen on June 29th

We may have one less month to wait for a haircut.
If you’re counting down the days until you can book in for a proper styling session or a shave, there’s some good news this morning.
According to new reports, hairdressers and barbers may be allowed reopen as early as June 29th instead of the scheduled date of July 20th, after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar agreed that then Government’s phased road map to reopen Ireland after the Covid-19 lockdown was “too slow”.
Speaking to RTE 2fm on Wednesday, the Taoiseach said: “We always said that if things went in the right direction, if the cases keep falling, the number of people in hospital with Covid keep falling then we would speed up the plan.
“So working with Tony Holohan and his colleagues in NPHET, we agreed that five phases ending in the middle of August was too slow. And because of all the work that Irish people have done to suppress this virus and crush the curve, we could bring some things forward.
“So the kind of things we’re looking at bringing forward, for example, are the reopening of hairdressers and salons and a couple of things like that.”
The Taoiseach said he expects that a new plan will be created for reopening salons and barbers this week.
“But it all depends on us keeping the virus under control,” he added.
