Green light for Lidl’s new €200 million Regional Distribution Centre in Little Island

By Yay Cork February 26, 2026

It’ll be up and running by 2030.

Lidl Ireland today welcomed the decision by Cork City Council to grant planning approval for a new €200 million Regional Distribution Centre in Wallingstown, Little Island in Cork.

The proposed Regional Distribution Centre at Little Island, anticipated to come on stream by 2030, will be Lidl’s fourth facility in the Republic of Ireland and the second to be located on Leeside.

The budget supermarket plans to rapidly expand its store network over the next five years and last year announced a fresh investment of €600 million in developing 35 new stores and a Regional Distribution Centre at Little Island, County Cork, by 2030.

Lidl currently services 190 stores in the Republic of Ireland from its three regional distribution centres at Charleville (North Cork), Mullingar (Westmeath) and Newbridge (Kildare). It currently operates 52 stores across Munster – Cork (22), Limerick (6), Waterford (4), Kerry (8), Clare (3), Tipperary (9).

“We are pleased to receive planning approval for a new, state-of-the-art Regional Distribution Centre at Little Island.” said Tara O’Connor, Regional Managing Director for Munster at Lidl Ireland.

“The development of a new distribution centre in this area is vital to ensure we meet the future needs of our business as we continue to deliver on our ambitious expansion plans and open new stores across local towns and cities over the next four years.”
