Got an hour to spare? Help clean up Beaumont Quarry this weekend

It’s a wildlife oasis in the middle of the city.
Now Cork Nature Network members are working to ensure that Beaumont Quarry continues to provide a safe habitat for rare Irish plants by organising a clean-up of the area this weekend.
The group is hoping volunteers will join them on Sunday, February 13th, 2022 for a morning of fresh air and litter-picking.
“This is the first cleanup since the beginning of the pandemic and as a result, there is a lot of work to be done.” said a spokesperson for the group.
“We need some enthusiastic volunteers to help to tidy up the site. If you have an hour or two to spare and you would like to help please book your place and meet by the green area in Beaumont Drive. Gloves, bin and litter pickers provided.”

Beaumont Quarry is particularly important for Irish wildlife as it is calcareous grassland, a rare habitat in Ireland.
The quarry is also home to rare flora such as the Little Robin, Pale Flax, and the Common Toadflax, all found within cracks in the limestone rocks and walls.
