Gazan mum Amaal Almahmoud is in Cork to speak for the children of Gaza

“He is not a number.
“He was a person with a life, a world, and parents who loved him.”
Genocide survivor Amaal Almahmoud will visit Cork this weekend to share her heartbreaking personal story from Israel’s relentless war on Gaza, which has killed at least 65,419 people and wounded 167,160 since October 2023. Thousands more are believed to be buried under the rubble.
Amaal lived in a Gaza City apartment with husband Mohammed, and their little boy Khaled, aged seven. A ‘miracle baby’ born via IVF after a long battle with infertility, Khaled brought joy to everyone he met. He loved swimming, football and Spiderman.

After Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza, the family fled south to join Amal’s parents in Rafah, which Israel had declared a safe zone for civilians.
On October 17th, 2023, without warning, an Israeli airstrike decimated their building, killing seven-year-old Khaled alongside 24 people, 12 from Amal’s family, including her father and brother.
Since the horror of that day, Amal, who is now based in Oslo, has made it her goal to tell her son Khaled’s story, in solidarity with the children in Gaza.
Amal will be talking at the following Cork locations this Friday and Saturday:
- Fri 26 Sept | 3pm at Good Day Deli, Nano Nagle Place
- Sat 27 Sept | 1pm at the @corkpalestinesolidarity demonstration, Grand Parade
- Sat 27 Sept | 3.30pm, following the march, Amal will speak in more detail about her life in Gaza at the South Parish Community Centre
All are welcome to attend.
