French food, film and a sneak peek at a special menu coming to Cork’s Metropole Hotel

Oooh la la.
Cork food and film fans are being invited to enjoy a taste of France without leaving the city this autumn, with the Metropole Hotel teaming up with Alliance Française de Cork for a special evening of French cuisine and cinema.
And there’s already a sneak peek at what’s on the menu.
“Projection Gourmande” will take place in the Metropole’s recently renovated Douglas Vance Suite on Friday, October 9th, from 7pm to 10.30pm, combining a four-course French-inspired dinner with a screening of the acclaimed 2023 film Sugar & Stars.
The menu, curated by Alliance Française de Cork President Valérie David-McGonnell and Trigon Hotels’ French Executive Chef Alex Petit, takes inspiration from classic dishes from different regions of France, with a few Irish touches along the way.
What’s on the menu?
Guests will be able to choose between Ficelle Picarde or Soufflé au Comté to start, followed by Boeuf Bourguignon or Bouillabaisse for the main course. There’s also an Irish cheese plate featuring Brie de Meaux, Ossau-Iraty and Sainte-Maure, before a choice of Crème Brûlée or Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Chef Petit said the event is a chance for the Metropole’s kitchen team to work with locally sourced ingredients while giving them a distinctly French twist.
He added that he drew inspiration from some of the best-loved dishes of his home country, including soufflé and Bouillabaisse.
After dinner, guests will settle in for Sugar & Stars, Sébastien Tulard’s heartwarming film about a young French chef pursuing his culinary ambitions.
Valérie David-McGonnell said there is “a great appetite for French film in Cork” and described the evening as a chance to enjoy both food and cinema in an intimate setting.
Tickets are priced from €90.81 and are available through Eventbrite.
