Douglas Street is closing for one big street party (and we’re all invited)

Update: Event cancelled due to the weather.
There’ll even be a silent disco on the day
A full day of festival fun is being finalised for Douglas Street, as the famed stretch of city road goes car-free this Sunday, September 24th for its annual AutumnFest.
While Cork City is hosting its first Car Free Day on Saturday, September 23rd, Douglas Street has been running its shindig for several years with the event growing in success year on year.
The jam-packed event runs from 12 noon to 6pm and one of the biggest draws is the Pitch’d Circus & Street Arts Festival, which will provide interactive street performances on the day.
And the fun doesn’t stop there; a Samba band, dancers from the Joan Denise Moriarty School of Dance, yoga and wellness, kids’ games, face painting and storytelling are the order of the day. If you fancy bringing your pooch, there’s a dog show happening, so your four-legged companion might end up being the star of the AutumnFest show.
There are also lots of treats if you’re feeling peckish — try your hand at pizza making or sample some sumptuous Spanish paella. You can also get your groove on at the Silent Disco, which is definitely something to tick off the bucket list if you haven’t already done so.
The event is organised by Douglas Street Business Association, which is a vibrant community of business people working together to showcase, as they say themselves, “their village in the city”.
