‘Don’t be a tosser!’ – Fountainstown locals are tired of annoying fly-tippers

Locals have had enough.
A Cork coastal gem is making waves in the ongoing battle against beachside litterbugs.
Fed up with careless dumping, the little seaside community of Fountainstown is taking a bold stand and they aren’t afraid to throw some serious shade at those who refuse to clean up their act.
Some eye-catching new signage presents a checklist of uncomfortable truths for anyone considering dumping their rubbish.
If caught littering, the sign asks you to look inward and ask: “Am I a tosser” or admit “I don’t care about my community”. And for those who believe “other people should pay to clean up after me,” well, there’s a box for that too.
Just replace Tosser with Langer and it’ll be pure Cork Like…

These bold and humorous posters aren’t limited to Fountainstown alone. They’ve been spotted at scenic hotspots in the UK and even as far as Australia. It’s a global message, a shared disdain for all “tossers”.
In a proactive move to tackle the litter trouble head-on, Cork County Council secured a substantial €108,000 in funding through the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authority (WERLA) Anti-Dumping Initiative last year. This financial boost is fuelling a diverse range of 18 projects, each designed to serve litterbugs a hefty reality check throughout Cork County.
For those who still disregard their responsibility, on-the-spot fines of €150 are just the beginning. A conviction could set you back an eye-watering €4,000.
That’s a warning everyone — don’t be a tosser.
