Customers can’t get enough of this café’s bestselling pink sprinkle school cake

Food and memory share a unique connection.
The scent of freshly baked bread can transport us back to our grandmother’s kitchen, while a single bite of a favourite childhood treat can unlock a flood of long-forgotten memories.
That could be the secret reason why one Cork café can’t keep up with the demand for one nostalgic bake.
At The Boathouse Cafe in Coachford, the school cake, a simple and traditional vanilla sponge tray bake, is a regular sell-out.
“Fascinated to know why this is the best seller.” said owner Ciara on Instagram.

“Literally every week you gorgeous lot can’t get enough of this sprinkle school cake Is it the sprinkles? Is it the colours? What is it?”
We can’t be sure but it’s likely the allure of soft, fluffy sponge cake and a thick layer of pink icing
The café, which does a mean toastie and some delicious homemade soups, is also known for its mini loaf cakes, fresh Bailey’s Chocolate and lemon curd donuts, and marshmallow cookie cups.
You can pop in and try them for yourself from Thursday to Saturday 9am to 4.30pm and on Sundays from 9am-3.30pm.
