Everybody loves a taco.

And in our experience, there is no man who is more devoted to giving the pub-going people of Cork exactly what they want than Benny McCabe.

The city’s favourite publican is about to launch a new venture within one of his most unique pubs; Old Town Taqueria opens this Thursday, July 11th, 2019 at BDSM on North Main Street, with a tasty menu of fresh tacos and other spicy delights.

First you’ll be needing a cocktail to quench your thirst – we recommend the Luchador, made with Jameson Caskmates IPA, Mezcal, Rocksteady Food Co. Fire in the Dance hot sauce, sugar and lime – they’ll even throw in a complimentary taco with every drink ordered to whet your appetite.

Then it’s taco time: €3 each or three for €8. Here’s the menu:

• The ‘Al Pastor’ (chargrilled pork, pineapple and salsa verde)
• The ‘Pollo Al Corcho’ (Tinga Chicken, avocado, red onion and pico d’gall0)
• The ‘Verdura Grande’ (smoked tofu, grilled peppers, avocado and cilantro)
• The ‘Barbacoa’ (slow-braised beef, red onion, guacamole and queso).

As well as a handful of daily specials, you can also order quesadillas, flatbreads, pizzas and nachos to munch on as you make your way through the cocktail menu.

With hot sauce aficionado Conor Lyons at the pass, it’s a welcome boost for the historic area, which has been badly hit by a building collapse and subsequent safety works in recent weeks.

The Old Town Taqueria offers an excellent excuse to stroll down and show some support.
