Cork’s cafés are staying open late this week with a trail of free events to check out

Ever wished Cork had more late-night coffee options?
If so, this weekend will be right up your street.
Coffee House Lates is returning to Cork city, with 11 independent cafés keeping their doors open into the evening and hosting a mix of music, talks, demos and creative events. Everything is free to attend and most of the spots are within easy walking distance, so you can easily turn the night into a bit of a café crawl around town.
Taking place across Cork city on Friday, March 13th from 6pm to 9pm, the event will once again transform some of the city’s best-loved coffee spots into cosy hubs of creativity after dark. It’s a chance to experience the cafés in a completely different way, with live music, DJs, baking demos and more happening while the coffee keeps flowing.
Coffee House Lates is presented in association with the Cork Business Association, and the idea is simple: bring people together, celebrate independent cafés and give everyone a reason to linger a little longer over their evening cup.
Here’s a quick look at some of the events happening around the city:
• The Old Oak, Oliver Plunkett Street – Friday March 13th
The grinders will be running late while Cork DJ Childish Lambino takes over the decks with a set of smooth disco house. Expect funky basslines, feel-good cuts and a laid-back dancefloor vibe whether you’re dropping in for a coffee, a cocktail or just a quick boogie.
• Ruairi’s Kitchen, High Street – Friday March 13th
Ruairi and his mum Jean will host a live baking demonstration called Irish Mammies Know Best. The pair will share traditional Irish baking techniques, stories and recipes that have been passed down through generations.

• Plugd Records, Cornmarket Street – Friday March 13th, 6.30pm to 10pm
Plugd Records and Brian’s Wines present Outside In, a late-night Screen and Spin experience. Experimental films will be soundtracked live with ambient and electronic music played on vinyl for an immersive night of visuals and sound.
• Dukes Coffee Company, Carey’s Lane – Monday March 16th from 6.30pm
Dukes will host an Irish-themed evening with live music from Mike O’Riordan performing a selection of Irish songs. Guests can enjoy Irish coffees along with complimentary sweet and savoury Irish-inspired bites with every drink purchased.
With plenty more cafés taking part across the city, Coffee House Lates is shaping up to be a nice excuse to wander around town, discover a few new spots and enjoy Cork’s coffee scene after hours.
