Cork Weather: Wet and windy but mostly mild as Christmas countdown continues

Heading out and about today?
You might want to keep the rain gear close, as the weather is set to stay fairly damp and unsettled — not ideal conditions for last-minute Christmas shopping.
Today, Wednesday, December 17th, is starting off wet and cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing right through the afternoon. According to Met Éireann, the rain will be heavy at times, clearing for a while later on. Temperatures will reach between 11 and 13 degrees, so it’ll be mild enough, but far from pleasant for dashing between shops.

There’s some better news for later on. Tonight, the rain will gradually clear, with mostly dry conditions developing as the night goes on. Clear spells are expected for a time before cloud builds again, and winds will ease briefly. Temperatures will drop to between 3 and 6 degrees, making for a chilly but calmer night.
Tomorrow, Thursday, sees the unsettled weather return. Skies will be overcast with rain spreading across the country during the morning and afternoon — a bit of a headache for anyone squeezing in final Christmas errands. The rain will clear later in the afternoon, followed by scattered showers and daytime highs will be cooler, ranging from 7 to 11 degrees.
Looking ahead, the national outlook suggests the week will finish on a rather unsettled note, though temperatures will remain slightly above average for the time of year. Thursday night will be wet and blustery, with some heavy showers.
Blustery for the weekend
Friday starts with a few showers and blustery winds but there should be some sunny spells — perhaps the best window for getting those final gifts ticked off the list. Cloud will increase again by late afternoon, with temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.
Conditions turn wet and windy again on Saturday, with rain in the morning followed by scattered showers, and the unsettled pattern continues into Sunday, when blustery winds and showers are expected nationwide and temperatures dip to between 6 and 9 degrees.
All in all, it’s a classic December forecast — changeable, damp and breezy.
