Cork Weather: The frost and ice returns this week (with sleet and snow on the cards too)

Don’t let the mild weekend fool you.
There might be a hint of spring in the air and a grand stretch in the evening, but the weather is reverting to winter in most parts of the country this week.
After a cloudy and wet start in Cork this morning, the rest of Tuesday will bring more widespread rain. Heavy at times, it may cause localised flooding so keep your eyes peeled if you’re walking or driving.
“The rain will gradually clear during the afternoon and by the evening, most places will be dry with clear spells.” said a Met Éireann forecaster.
“As the rain clears, colder conditions will return. Temperatures of around 10 degrees in the morning will drop to 4 to 6 degrees in the afternoon.”
Most areas will be dry and clear tonight but it will be cold with frost and ice as temperatures fall to between -2 and +2 degrees, in a light west to northwest wind.
“Wednesday morning will be cold with frost and icy stretches.” added the forecasters.
“It will be dry with hazy sunny spells at first, but cloud will spread from the south through the day and patchy rain will develop in the south and southwest. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in a light and variable wind.”
On Wednesday night, rain or sleet will extend across Munster, Connacht and Leinster and snow is possible on higher ground. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees are expected again.
Best not to fold up the thermals just yet.
