Cork Weather: Dry today with plenty of low winter sunshine (but more frost to come)

As far as January weather goes, it could be worse.
After a cold start around Cork this morning, with frost and a few misty patches clearing fairly early, it’s actually not too bad out there now — mostly dry with some decent low winter sunshine.
Showers will be knocking around the Atlantic coast, and a few could be heavy with hail, but many spots will stay dry. Highs of about 7–10°C, so still on the cool side.
Tonight
This is where it really turns wintry. While there’ll be dry spells at first, rain will edge into the south and southwest later on. Where skies stay clear, frost will form, along with mist and fog patches. Temperatures dipping to 0–3°C, so it’ll be a cold one — watch out for icy stretches early tomorrow.
Friday
Any frost or fog should clear in the morning, but it’ll start off cold again. The day itself will be bright for many, though Cork could see a few heavy, possibly thundery showers popping up. Highs only 7–9°C, so still crisp.
Looking Ahead – Proper Frosty Nights
Friday night will bring widespread fog, and in places freezing fog, with temperatures dropping as low as -2°C. Definitely an icy night.
Saturday is looking mostly dry but gloomy enough, with lingering fog in places and daytime temps just 4–8°C, so it won’t really thaw much. On Saturday night we can expect more fog and frost where skies clear, again down to around -2°C.
Sunday night will bring rain and slightly milder conditions and Monday is likely to be wet and dull, but less frosty.
