‘Cork people don’t just see it as a building’ – artist releases new prints of R&H Hall

It watched over the city for more than eight decades.
Now Cork folk who feel pangs of nostalgia for the Dockland’s iconic R&H Hall building, almost fully demolished, can add another stunning print to their collection of images of the famous building.
Cork-based artist and fine art photographer Sue Nelson has launched a collection of unique limited-edition prints to immortalise the grain silos that have dominated Cork City’s skyline for 90 years.
With an engineering background, Sue was always fascinated by the city’s industrial history and the Docks. In 2023 she meticulously photographed and captured the silos at all times of the day to ensure her artwork embodied the soul of what Corkonians have become accustomed to since the mid-1930’s.
Her collection of numbered limited-edition prints, signed by the artist and entitled ‘Echoes of the Dockside’, are truly unique.

“For over eight decades, this iconic building has silently observed the ebb and flow of life on the docks.” says the artist.
“In a rapidly changing world, it is important to honour and preserve the landmarks that define our identity as Corkonians.
“My hope is that this collection will serve as a timeless tribute to the legacy of the well-loved R&H Hall building.”
She added: “Cork people don’t just see it as a building, for years it was the heartbeat of our city and an important piece of the history of Cork City docks.”
These limited edition fine art prints of “Echoes of the Dockside”, ‘Sleeping Giant’ and ‘Psychedelic Nights’ are available to buy from Sue’s website from €175.
