Cork author Leona Forde is about to launch her second book for tweens

Are you a parent to a tweenager?
If you’ve a pre-teen at home, you will inevitably have heard of the Milly McCarthy series. So expect squeals of joy with the news that the eagerly awaited new installment Milly McCarthy and the Irish Dancing Disaster will launch this Saturday, September 16th in Douglas.
The story follows on from Leona Forde’s top-selling debut, Milly McCarthy is a Complete Catastrophe, telling the story of a 10-year-old who is a magnet for mayhem.
This time, the Cork author and teacher has her heroine deciding to take up a new hobby in the hopes of becoming a World Champion Irish dancer. Expect glitter, hairspray, poodle socks, curly wigs, shocked judges and, of course, utter chaos.

“I love that Milly is so relatable,” Forde told Yay Cork. “Lots of parents and readers have told me they know a Milly, meaning someone fun with a heart of gold who just happens to be a magnet for mischief.”
The latest book will be launched at a very apt Feis Milly event in Douglas Village Shopping Centre at 11am on Saturday with Forde joined by illustrator Karen Harte.
There will even be a performance by members of the Kiely-Walsh Academy of Dance (who have pledged that there will be no Milly antics on the day).
“I really had no inclination that it would prove so popular but it has really resonated with both kids and parents,” explains Forde.
“Kids like the simple text, the references to modern Irish culture, and the brilliant fun illustrations by Karen. Parents like that it brings them right back to their own school days.”
Book three is already in the pipeline. “It once again features Milly and her class and of course lots of fun and mayhem on their school sports day,” reveals Forde.
