Cork Airport is the first in Ireland to swap chemicals for ‘green cleaning’

By Yay Cork June 17, 2019June 17, 2019

The swap will prevent more than 5,400 litres of chemicals from impacting on the environment every year.

Cork Airport is the first airport in Ireland to switch to a novel new organic cleaning solution that will reduce cleaning chemical usage by over 80 per cent while minimising the airport’s use of plastics and cardboard.

The airport’s cleaning partner NOONAN has installed a toxin-free organic cleaning solution called Tersano Lotus Pro, which transforms ordinary tap water into a powerful cleaning agent.

The process simply adds an extra atom of oxygen to the water molecule — transforming O2 into O3 — producing a cleaning agent that is stronger than bleach, but is as safe as normal water.

Globally, this technology has eliminated the usage of over 300 million litres of chemicals.

Incredibly, choosing the organic option worked out as the cheaper option for Cork Airport, as well as the environmentally-friendly one.

“In my experience, going green whilst critically important, doesn’t always save money but I am delighted to say in this case, it does, so it wins all round!” said Cork Airport Managing Director Niall MacCarthy.
