Enter Cork Craft Month, which is running a special Beginner Embroidery Workshop on Wednesday, August 21st.
Led by visual artist Sarah Buckley and held at Greywood Arts Creative Hub & Artist Residency on Main Street, Killeagh, this workshop is the perfect opportunity for both novices and experienced crafters to immerse themselves in the delicate art of embroidery.
This is just one of 80 events across Cork city and county organised by Cork Craft & Design for Cork Craft Month in August.
Sarah, known for her work exploring childhood and memory through drawing and stitch, aims to create a safe and fun space where participants can connect with their creativity through textiles. Her workshops are welcoming to all skill levels, ensuring that everyone from complete beginners to seasoned makers can benefit from the experience.
Participants will be provided with all the necessary materials and guided through the basics, from fabric selection to threading needles and choosing stitches.
“I explore childhood and memory through drawing and stitch,” says Sarah. “Sourcing ideas, inspiration and images from collections of old family photographs, I use textiles and stitch for its accessibility, familiarity and slow, meditative process.”
Want to go along?
Taking place from 7pm to 9pm, the workshop (€45) includes tea and coffee — the perfect Bridgerton touch. Participants will leave not only with new skills and a beautiful handmade item but also with a deeper appreciation for the artistry and tradition of embroidery, much like the characters in Bridgerton… well, apart from Eloise of course.
Tickets are €45 and you can snap them up here.
